Our constitution
Shake It Up is governed by these key points.
There will be two types of membership:
Supporter member - who pays at least £5/month but does not have a vote at general meetings
Voter member - who pays at least £5/month and commits to a minimum of 4 hours of mobilisation work (doorknocking, phoning, stalls) per month - and has one vote at general meetings. These members cannot be members of another political party.
Members
Training:
All new members will be asked to attend an induction training and receive the SIU ways of working document so as to help maintain a culture of respect in our dealing with each other.
Working Groups
Working groups are created by the core team to have written mandates to get on with pursuing particular parts of the present written strategy. They are operationally free to get on with their task and give reports to core group meetings. The core group can in the last analysis overrule the actions of a working group but the spirit is to trust people to do their work as they see fit.
General meetings are to happen at least once a month.
At these meetings, the core team will organise the agenda and give a report on the progress of SIU projects. Any member can make a written proposal and send it to the core team, via the Administrator, at least 3 days before a general meeting for it to be put on the agenda.
If the facilitator of the general meeting wishes to bring the proposal to a vote, then they can do so. If a majority vote for the proposal, then the proposal is passed and this over-rides any position of the core group.
However, a vote can only be taken on the meeting after a proposal is presented (the second meeting) - so as to give time for dialogue and creative solutions to any differences.
General Meetings
The core group is responsible for the operation of the strategy and values of SIU and filling core individual roles (see below).
It will meet at least once every two weeks. It will have at least 5 members. Decisions will be made by majority vote if a consensus cannot be reached.
Long term decisions are put into a policy document which lists all the longer term decisions of SIU. The present members are Neila, Harry, Ruby, Jo, Roger, Ed, Tara.
